My name is Andy. I'm from Beijing, China. Currently I'm working as a freelancer, and I have enjoyed this work style for over a decade.

Tell us about your professional training and work experience

Following my training at Anhui Medical University from 2000-2004 majoring in Medical Informatics, I started a career as a medical translator/interpreter, and this line of work has afforded me the flexibility to work as a freelancer later on.

In my work I have taken on different roles ranging from Subject Matter Expert, Language Lead, Language Editor, Proofreader, to Global Language Coordinator. Most of my clients are from the medical field. However, Over the years I've also served many clients from the IT field and the financial field as well.

I came to know Workshift when I was recommended by a local Japanese friend about 2 years ago, when I was in Tokyo and Yokohama for a holiday, to register on the platform to find value for my skill set of medical knowledge, IT experience finance experience and language skills in the Japanese market.

How does freelancing fit your lifestyle?

Freelance is a style of work, and most importantly it is a style of life, and I feel lucky to be able to work and live in the freelance way, so I can have a good work/life balance. More importantly there are more opportunities for me to meet and interact with people from different places and work on different projects.

What are your future plans?

I'm planning to do lots of freelance work, for example to work as a freelance writer to put interesting stories into words; to promote Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM); and to help cancer patients to find alternative cures that do not exist in the mainstream medicine.

What are your impressions of Workshift?

For the past 2 years as an active user, I find Workshift is really an easy-to-use and fun place, where you'll find many interesting projects in fields that you either are already familiar with or that may introduce you into fields that you have never heard of before.
These projects will often be automatically recommended to you by the system. Workshift is an efficient marketplace that really helps service providers like me and the many diversified clients from the Japanese market.

Was it smooth applying for jobs?

In Workshift it is quite easy to apply for jobs. After receiving a job alert that matches your skill set, what you will need to do is to bid your price and prepare a simple proposal on how you will work on the project. That's it! In case you encounter any problem in the process of applying for jobs, you can always write to the system administrator to flag the issue and the response from the support team is always timely and polite.

Workshift is worth trying, where you can not only be matched to fun projects that pay you fairly, the experience itself is often a very rewarding one.

As a freelancer, people are trying to balance their work and life, and so am I. I like traveling a lot and enjoy talking with people from different backgrounds and making friends with them.

The world will be more beautiful if you could bring people a bit more happiness and reduce their sufferings. As a freelance with a medical background, I’m determined to work towards that direction!
