The Freelancer Life is Peaceful!!
Self-Introduction
First and foremost, allow me to introduce myself! I am San Lwin from Myanmar. While I was working in the Philippines as a Marketing Manager trainee, I had a chance to study further in Thailand. I studied and received a Master of Rural Development (MRDM) from Khon Kaen University, Thailand in 2016. Formerly, I was a government officer and later worked with an agriculture related NGO.
When did you learn of Workshift?
I first discovered Workshift from Facebook and I was very eager to try it out and learn more about it. In fact, I have a lot of Japanese friends and they are all very kind and simple. That is how I became interested in this freelancer website called Workshift. Actually, before I registered on Workshift had also tried 2 or 3 other websites.
What has been your experience with Workshift so far?
The main challenge for me is whether I am able work on Workshift or not. The truth is I don’t have so much experience as an online freelancer. But I believe that Workshift will arrange everything to make it easy and effective for me.
What are your skills and fields of strength?
Which fields are more suitable for me? First, I would say that research is my strength, any kind of research, both qualitative and quantitative. Both field research and online research are areas that I enjoy working with. I am very familiar with subject fields such as Agriculture, the Food Industry, Education, Computer and Information Technology, Rural Development and Economics. Additionally, I have good demand of English and basic knowledge of Thai, Tagalog, Japanese and Chinese, as well as my native language Burmese from my country of Myanmar. I am thinking that maybe I can do some translation work as well.
What kind of work did you find in Workshift?
After registering with Workshift 2 years ago I applied for more than half a dozen jobs. I carefully wrote my applications and submitted my proposals. I was not selected for some of them but I was selected for 3 projects! I try my best to fulfil the requirements of the client. Their requirements are accurate information send to them in a timely manner. High quality information and the most reliable facts and figures are vital for them. The client always reminds me to work hard and finish the project in an orderly fashion and on time. That’s fine, I can do that. I am proud to say that the clients - all from Japan - have given me high evaluations on Workshift and I feel satisfied working on this website.
How does payment work at Workshift?
Payment, of course, is important and from my experience with Workshift I can say that they are safe and reliable for us freelancers. It was a huge amount of money that they sent to me. At least it is for someone from Myanmar, a developing country.
What are the benefits to you for working as a freelancer?
It is important to stay connected with family. In my case, my son and I are so far apart because of my travel schedule! Especially now, at my son’s young age it is important for us to meet each other often. With full time employment this can be a very challenging matter, particularly when travel abroad is involved. Now I have an opportunity to work here with Workshift. I just came back from being with my son. He has a good time. I work at home, sometimes work at a café drinking my favourite Cappuccino. There are no worries about a boss, no worries about disturbing co-workers. The freelancer life is peaceful and it is good to work alone.
What are your future plans?
My plan is to work more and more as a freelancer. I have decided I am ready to work as a researcher in Myanmar, working in any field that my clients wants me to work in. The ideal situation would be working online, staying in tune with family, having friends and having other hobbies. My hobbies are reading and watching movies. That gives me pleasure and it is relaxing. Travelling is good for helping us to enrich our brain and heart.
