“Do what you love, because we only live once!”
Hello, my name is Issaree Jarasjirapat or you can call me “Mew”. I received a scholarship to study four years at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Oita Prefecture, Japan, and graduated with an undergraduate degree. Then, during my 4-year study, I received other scholarships for 3 years.
- What are some of your fondest memories of Japan?
While I was a student, as part of my immersion into Japanese culture, I joined the traditional Obon summer dance at the Beppu Early Summer Festival with some of my friends. We danced on the beach called Matogama Beach. I wore a bright pink yukata and danced away the night to the gentle Obon rhythm on the beach with my friends and about a hundred Japanese people in a big circle. It was so much fun and I learned a lot about Japanese culture.
- What did you do after graduation?
After I graduated from Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University with a bachelor’s degree I came back to my hometown, Bangkok, Thailand. Then I began the inevitable process of thinking about my future. I started searching for motivation and inspiration for my career path.
- How did you start working as a freelancer online?
One day, by chance, I found Workshift through Facebook and that is when my career as a freelancer was launched! At first, because I didn’t have any work experience, I didn’t know which fields suited me. However, I did have knowledge of several languages: Thai, English, Japanese and some of Korean. Consequently, I thought language translation would be a good place for me to start.
This photo below is one of my favorite locations to work at!
- Which type of jobs have you done on Workshift?
So far, I have completed many Japanese/Thai translation jobs and sometimes I have also applied for and have been hired to do Thailand related market research jobs. In fact, as of today I have completed more than 60 jobs in total on Workshift, making me currently the second most active freelancer at Workshift in terms of number of jobs completed! See my profile for details! During my recent trip to Japan I often worked from my mobile phone as you can see in this photo of me below wearing a sweater inside a restaurant in Japan. In Thailand we don’t have a need for sweaters!
- What does your daily schedule look like?
Have you ever thought about how you can manage time to work or spend time with your family and friends? As I am working with Workshift, a kind of online job platform based in Japan, I can manage my schedule as I want to and also use my Japanese language skills that I learned during my four years at university there! Therefore, I can take a trip with my family, or I can meet my friends anytime, and I really enjoy working online!
- Do you have any special hobbies?
Yes, I have a hobby, which is dancing! Best of all, I can now make time to enjoy it! At the beginning of this year, I joined a dance team called Almighty Crew and participated in the Hip Hop International 2017 event! Actually I never used to hip-hop dance at all but I challenged myself and after some hard work and practice I finally I made it! Moreover, the team is really nice to me and we all help each other. This is a photograph of our hip-hop dance team Almighty Crew. I am in the back row pointing to myself.
Workshift helps me a lot by giving me time to enjoy what I love. And what I love to do is dance! In this photo I am second from the right wearing a striped necktie. My dancing team and I just released a dance video!
- What else do you like to do?
In addition, I love travelling and by working online I can travel with my family anytime I want to, I don’t have to wait for the holidays and I can travel as long as I want too because I can work with Workshift from anywhere as long as there is an internet connection. Last year I travelled to London with my brother. This beautiful garden, in the photo below, is somewhere around Buckingham Palace.
Recently, in July of this summer, I returned to Beppu, Oita prefecture for a nostalgic visit to the town I lived in for four years as a student. This photo below is a nearby beach named Mochigahama Beach, it is a place I visited often when I was a student living there.
- What kind of social issues do you care about?
I believe in give and take. Nowadays, I donate to children’s’ pediatric cardiac surgery every month. I believe small things can change the world, so every life is valuable.
Do what you love, because we only live once!
