Prepare and guide an expedition on the highest peak in North America Denali in Alaska, which is also one of the Seven Summits. Lead a team up to 9 clients maximum and 2 additional assistant guides (3:1 guide to client ratio) on an expedition team, unless a private team which will be 2:1 ratio of guide and client.

The expedition is 23 days, with up to 22 days on the mountain aiming for the summit. I am responsible for the food menu, preparation and packing, leading the guide team and expedition. Insure the safety and welfare of all members during the expedition, as well as assisting Denali National Park Rangers including translation needs with Japanese climbers, on search and rescue efforts. Sometimes as the first responder in case of an emergency.

Have a Zoom conference call with all clients roughly 6 weeks prior to the expedition, to brief on expedition expectations, itinerary, and Q&A.

Primarily guide for the Denali climbing season from May to mid July.

Guide clients on Glaciated and non-glaciated terrain for mountaineering purposes, or instructional single to multi-day courses, involving camping. Guide and instruct in Alpine climbing, Ice climbing, Rock climbing disciplines of varying levels.

Some assignments included guiding NASA scientists on Mt Rainier, WA for research at the summit crater ice cave, assisting carrying loads down the mountain as well as, navigation, complex glacial travel, and minimize exposure to a range of objective hazards for a safe return.

Seasonal work (out of state), not limited to but primarily in the Washington North Cascade Mountains in between seasonal remote guiding contracts with other guide companies throughout the year.

Denail National Park and Preserve Volunteer Rescue Patrol: North to South historical Muldrow Route traverse team.

Volunteer Rescue Patrol

Patrol period June 8 - July 10, 2019.

Employed by the Government during Denail National Park and Preserve Mountaineering Rescue missions.
One mission carried out at around 15,000ft below the head wall fixed line, and another mission tending to a patient unable to descend under own power, via a Helicopter Evacuation from the 14,200ft camp to Talkeetna Hali Pad.

Be available to assist with any Japanese communication/translation needs for the National Park Rangers (usually during emergency medical/rescue needs).

Patrol a historical mountaineering called the Muldrow Glacier Route. Close to 30 days on the mountain. Travel on foot from Wonder Lake across the tundra and major river crossings to access the glacier on the North side of Denali. Travel up and over Denali Pass to High camp at 17,200ft. Remain at High Camp for a week to complete end of season rescue patrol high cache inventory of rescue equipment and supplies, while being available for rescue needs at all times. Patrol and Summit the North Summit to avoid crowding on the South summit route (true summit). Take down the National Park Ranger structure, communication tent, medical tent and staff tent at 14,200ft camp on the South side of the mountain for end of season shut down, preparing Helicopter sling loads to remove heavy loads. Perform rescue and tend to emergency medical needs for commercial and private groups as needed. Descend via the regular West Buttress Route.

Selected by a Climbing Ranger on patrol. Patrol period depend on schedule of the Climbing Ranger rotation during the Denali climbing season early May-mid July.

Primarily staged at the Heli Pad location of the day with means to fuel a Helicopter throughout the day, staying in communication with the pilot. Prepare and assist ski clients to load and unload the aircraft, as I also load and unload the cargo baskets with skis and packs.

Be available to drive the PistenBully snowcat for Cat skiing.

Based in Niseko, Japan for the season. Travel between Niseko, Shimamaki, Otaru, Funaro, Sapporo likely during the season.

Ski Guide for Backcountry skiing, List Accessed Off-Piste skiing, Heli skiing and Snowcat skiing.
Instruct Canadian Avalanche Association Avalanche Skills Training Level 1 courses (2 day): Indoor lecture and practical field sessions.

Attend AM and PM meetings to discuss the weather forecast and synopsis, days plan, assess avalanche hazard rating, including objective hazards for the day in relevant areas for the day. Update communication and rescue plans.

Enter end of day reports online after guiding with relevant information, as reference for the following morning meeting.

Take turns preparing and running the morning meetings.

Check and prepare rental equipment as needed: Skis/Split boards, Avalanche safety tools and Avalanche transceivers. Route plan.

Responsible for picking up and dropping off clients from chosen accommodations, basic avalanche safety briefing, as well as guiding the chosen objective for the day. If a multi-day road trip, the guide is responsible for all itinerary, logistics, hotel check-ins, airport transfer (if needed), rescue and dining as well as ski guiding.

For Heli skiing:
Perform Basic companion rescue briefings, and safety around helicopter. Ski run plan.
Heli-ski guide.

For Snowcat skiing:
Perform Basic companion rescue briefings, and safety around helicopter. Client pick-up and drop-offs. Ski run plan.
Rescue. Cat ski guide. Check and record field weather station data accessed via snowmobile prior to client arrival in the morning.

Be available to assist in rescue as needed for local needs in the Niseko and Furano, Hokkaido region for colleague and guide community.
