ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CONSULTANT

Provided expert guidance on the development of environmental, economic and legal curriculum for community-based organizations throughout Myanmar. Accomplishments include:
• Led the production of a “Farmers’ Rights Training Manual” and “Farmers’ Rights Handbook” for illiterate farmers, including soliciting and managing inputs from local artists, Earth Rights International’s legal and training team, as well as Mote Oo Education’s curriculum writers and training team.
• Led a pilot training of trainers for over 30 community leaders using the above materials.
• Authored a 180-page economics training manual for Mote Oo Education addressing beginner to intermediate economic theory and case studies
• Authored a 10 page Participatory Community Development training manual.
• Designed a 3-month training course on land rights, law and economics based on compiled training materials from throughout Thailand and Myanmar on human rights, land law, international law, gender equality for use as curriculum.
Green Communities Consulting
DIRECTOR/FOUNDER

Founded Green Communities Consulting (GCC), a non-profit consulting firm, in 2012 with the purpose of assisting community-based development practitioners in Myanmar and Thailand. Designed and implemented projects, fundraised, managed volunteers, drafted organizational plan and structure, created and maintained a website, and developed organizational policies. Main accomplishments include:
• Conducted successful crowd-funding campaign which raised $2,000 USD from individual donors; Collaborated with local agriculture specialists and farmers to advise on an agroforestry and land use planning project in Hpa An. Analyzed canopy and root depth ecology impacts for species selection, advised on animal species selection for multipurpose land use (considering pest control, fertilizer, and soil remediation strategies), and conducted local environmental impact assessment of the project and advised on strategies to minimize environmental health risks while maximizing land use.
• Collaborated with a sustainable agriculture training school in Myanmar to develop well water access for irrigation, and conducted training on mud-brick building and community development.
• Consulted with Kanpetlet Land Development Organization, a community organization in Myanmar. Wrote a preliminary environmental and social impact assessment of their proposed community training center project. Co-designed a community mapping project to examine available resources and co-designed a stakeholder analysis.
Network for Environmental and Economic Development – Myanmar
PROGRAM OFFICER
2014/01~ 2015/01
On-site manager of a residential training program for community development practitioners from Myanmar. Duties included hiring and managing 10 staff members and 10 volunteers, overseeing all curriculum and teaching, managing donor relationships including monthly and annual report writing, reviewing and revising curriculum, selecting students, managing social media and website design, and managing the closure of the Chiang Mai site as well as the transition of school assets from Thailand to Myanmar. Accomplishments include:
• Strengthened donor relationships by implementing monthly dialogue with select donors.
• Managed $50,000 USD in project grants from donors and documented performance benchmarks of NEED’s progress and transition to Myanmar.
• Started a successful community-supported agriculture project to help supplement farm staff salaries, support farm activities, and prepare farm staff for the closure of the farm in Thailand.
• Provided training to 40 community development practitioners in sustainable community development, community engagement strategies, gender equality, action research methodology, stakeholder analysis, interviews/surveys, project design, and proposal writing.

ENVIRONMENT TRAINER

Provided expert consulting to NEED-Myanmar by writing curriculum and conducting training in fields such as community development, land use planning, resource management, environmental design, sustainable livelihoods, and organic agriculture. Developed and taught environmental science curriculum including biogeochemistry cycles, environmental system cycles, micro-water filtration, compost, rocket stoves, water pollution, and agricultural practices. Trained over 200 community development practitioners in Thailand and Myanmar at the NEED schools.
