• Serve as a primary interpreter/translator to United States Army Japan Commanding General and visiting U.S. Army and Department of Defense (DoD) representatives in their interactions with Japan Self-Defense Force (JSDF) and Government of Japan agencies and municipalities in such activities as senior-leader seminars, subject matter expert exchanges, and bilateral command post and field training exercises. These included contract negotiations between U.S. and Japan defense organizations.
• An expert in Japanese culture, provide customs and courtesy advice to the principals as well as historic background information during crucial bilateral negotiations and visits. Facilitated maintenance of all professional relationships and an extensive network across Japan Self Defense Forces and defense industry.
• Lead a team of interpreters before and during missions to successfully fulfill language support requirements and help achieve the overall mission objectives. Review and edit written products of DoD and JSDF translators for accuracy, style, and completeness.
• As the long-serving senior translator, act as a liaison between requesting offices and the division chief in developing the language support plan. Assign and manage the team’s daily interpretation and translation tasks based on customers’ needs.
