Duties and Responsibilities performed by an IT Consultant

1. Meeting with clients to determine requirements.
2. Working with clients to define the scope of a project.
3. Planning timescales and the resources needed.
4. Clarifying a client's system specifications, understanding their work practices and the nature of their business.
5. Traveling to customer sites.
6. Liaising with staff at all levels of a client organization.
7. Defining software, hardware and network requirements.
8. Analyzing IT requirements within companies and giving independent and objective advice on the use of IT.
9. Developing agreed solutions and implementing new systems.
10. Presenting solutions in written or oral reports.
11. Helping clients with change-management activities.
12. Purchasing systems where appropriate.
13. Designing, testing, installing and monitoring new systems.
14. Preparing documentation and presenting progress reports to customers.
15. Organizing training for users and other consultants.
16. Being involved in sales and support, and where appropriate, maintaining contact with client organizations.
17. Identifying potential clients and building and maintaining contacts.
