State Bank of Pakistan, has recently established Research & Development Division within the Banking Inspection Department with the intention to provide input on policies to various departments of SBP, act as focal division for solving any queries from Banking sector, formulate internal policies and procedures and explore developments in the field of banking and finance with special emphasis on supervision.
One of the core responsibilities of this division is the development of Risk Based Supervision framework. State Bank of Pakistan has undertaken the objective of shifting its regulatory framework from compliance based transaction supervision regime to forward looking risk based approach in the strategic plan of 2015-2020. I am core member of the Risk Based Supervision (RBS) team that is actively involved in research study, identification and implementation of Risk Based Supervision framework at State Bank of Pakistan. Till date RBS team has developed the schema of the proposed model and has worked on risk assessment and controls to identify residual risk by studying various supervisory models (APRA-Australia, OSFI-Canada, INROADS-India, CRAFT-MAS, Singapore and supervisory framework of HKMA-Hong Kong). SBP is expecting its parallel run with CAMELS from June 2018.

• Preparing statutory reports for banks regarding written-off loans, mark- up and other dues, or financial relief through rescheduling & restructuring of loans.
