  • Speed Control of a DC Motor Deployed on a Smart Car

    This project was designed as a part of our Control System I Laboratory. The main purpose of the project was to control the speed of a DC motor deployed on a smart car in order to ensure both avoidance of accidents and comfort of passengers inside the vehicels by providing smooth stopping, starting and runtime speed of the car based on the distance of the obstacle in front of it. The project also went on display in EEE Day 2015 Project Show in BUET and ICT expo 2015.

    The main objective of this project is to determine the characters in a .jpg file and extract them in a text format. It’s done using with MATLAB image processing toolbox.

    The main idea behind this project is very straightforward – comparison with the samples of letters, with the letters in the .JPG file. First, the letters are cut out in different rectangles and then they are simply compared with the sample images to find the best match.

    This project is in its very infancy. Therefore, it can only identify very nicely written and straight letters. Also it has some bugs with some special type of characters. Right now, it is perfectly working with capital letters only. The project is on its way to development.

    Very Recently Computer vision toolbox is added to it, which has made the project more accurate.

    The project was displayed in ICEEICT project show 2014, & EEE day 2014, Inter University Project Show.

    A simple but noble algorithm along with a generic and easy-to-implement hardware arrangement has been introduced in this project which results in a braille keyboard with minimum size and easy and simple usage. The keyboard was used by some visually impaired persons and their feedback was satisfactory. The keyboard implements both grade I and grade II of braille grammar and also ready for any kind of upgrades in the braille grammar.

    We completed the Top down and Bottom Up design and layout of an n-bit general purpose shift register using Cadence Encounter RTL & Cadence Virtuoso Design Environment respectively in our VLSI II Laboratory. For the purpose of demonstration, we chose n=4. The Top down approach was completed upto generating synthesized Verilog code since the technology files required to do the layout was not available in our laboratory. However, we completed the Bottom up approach completely with an additional ESD protection circuit in order to ensure a better protection to the inner core of the chip.

    We completed the design and layout of a 3 input XOR gate using Cadence Virtuoso Design Environment with minimum Area and propagation delay as a part of our VLSI I Laboratory.
