I am an Overseas Filipino Worker (seafarer) for nine years. I love my job but I realized that my kids were growing up without me by their side. Yes I can sustain their needs financially, but I can't support them emotionally and mentally because we are always far apart. A father’s absence usually has a negative impact on children and adolescent, and that these would face an increased risk for developing behavioral problems. I want to be involved in their growing up to promote inner growth and strength. That is why I decided not to go back on board so I could spend more time with my family, while working as a freelancer, at the same time, I will be able to help my wife to earn money to support the needs of our family.
