A teacher of English and Japanese in Ottawa, Canada, I also work as a freelance translator and interpreter. I am from the U.K., but I spent 10 years in Japan after university where I became fluent in the language and started working as a freelance translator. I passed level 1 / 一級of JLPT after about 3 years in Japan while working as an English teacher at a public high school. I learned Japanese on the job as I was fully immersed in the school community. I did volunteer interpretation; for example at Osaka Human Rights Museum and Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. I moved from Japan to Canada in 2001 and worked for Japanese auto parts suppliers as an in-house translator and secretary. Since then my freelance work has included the fields of medicine and business. I have also interpreted for Japanese journalists on a tour of software companies in Ottawa. With a degree in Fine Art, my interests include Art and Science.
